John Czaus
As a 23 year resident of Sykesville and a 20 year member of Sykesville swim club. I think I am well-versed and qualified to make a difference as a board member as I said by before my family and I are Sykesville residents, I’ve lived here since 2002 we’ve been members at South Carroll swim club since 2005. I have a wife and two children and currently am a store director with The Fresh Market in Baltimore. I have an MBA from Texas Tech University, and currently with my position as store director I use much financial acumen along with dealing with sales and labor budgets I also have full responsibility of the profit and loss statement, with many years of business experience I feel that I will be a great addition to the board so that we can keep a safe and family environment here at the south Carroll swim club. My goal as a board member is to ensure that all members have a safe and enjoyable experience while at the swim club.
Tom Straehle
I have been a member of SCSC for over 38 years and have been on the Board of Directors for many years. I have been served as Activities Director, Vice President, and President in the past and I am currently serving as President. During my past term, I have led the BOD and the pool membership through an update of our membership software and the full-time rental of our banquet hall. Both items have allowed us to keep the increases in dues to a minimum while making improvements to the pool, new slide, gaga pit, basketball court upgrade. We have been able to maintain our full membership and better manage the pool with the new software. I would like to continue to offer my experience to the Club. With full membership we should be able to take care of some projects that have been neglected due to budget restrictions. We are nearing the end of our mortgage commitment that allowed for the building of the new pool and clubhouse complex 20 years ago, and we will need to plan for the future repair and growth of the facilities.
Kristie Kay
I wanted to express my interest in the vacant board position at the South Carroll Swim Club. Over the past few years, I have become increasingly involved in our local community through youth sports and volunteer leadership. I currently run the concession stand for the Sykesville Raiders, where I help enhance the game day experience for families while raising important funds for the organization. In addition, I serve as the President of Winfield Basketball, where I oversee operations and work to provide a positive and organized experience for young athletes and their families. I’m passionate about building strong, community-centered programs and would welcome the opportunity to bring that same energy and commitment to the South Carroll Swim Club.
Suzanne Connole
I am running to be reelected as the secretary for the South Carroll Swim Club Board. My family and I have been members of the club for 20+ years. We have been Carroll County residents for 40 years and reside in Taylorsville. All of our 4 grown children have worked as lifeguards, in fact that is how our oldest son met his wife! We now share our love of SCSC with our 6 grandchildren. We are dedicated to seeing the continuation of a welcoming, safe, and fun environment for families to gather with friends to enjoy the golden days of summer in Carroll County. I am a reading intervention teacher in Montgomery County which allows me to spend relaxing summer days at the club with my family. I hope you will consider voting for my reelection so I may continue to
Daniel Moore
I am currently an attorney based in the Baltimore office of Saul Ewing LLP, a national law firm. I reside in Taylorsville about 20 minutes from the club. Last season was my first, but I regularly use the pool for lap swimming (4-5 times per week). I grew up around pools – swimming and diving competitively in Frederick County, lifeguarding at Frederick High and at Fort Detrick indoor and outdoor pools (as head lifeguard). I also worked as a water safety instructor for several years. I would love to put my expertise back to good use for SCSC. And, to the extent it is helpful, I have a particular interest in the Pool and Grounds Committee work.
Missy Culler
Missy here! I am running to be re-elected as the Membership Chair of our wonderful club. I have spent the majority of my life at this swim club, and have been so grateful to serve as the membership coordinator for the last 3 years. My two sons, husband and I have enjoyed getting to know all the members and welcoming the new ones over the past few years. While we predominantly reside in the baby pool area, I am always around to hear from all the members of the pool for ways in which we can improve and maintain South Carroll. I am blessed to be home full time raising my children, but am just as thankful to have the ability to serve you and this community. I hope you will consider allowing me to continue my efforts for the next 3 years! Cheers!
Nicholas Abbot
My family and I frequent the pool all season. I frequently volunteer for the swim team running the grill. I’ve been a member of the F.O.S soccer board. I am also heavily involved with Sykesville baseball, so I’m very familiar with board responsibilities, and needs. Would love to join the board for the pool and help where I can.
Len August
I have two young sons. Landon is 7 years old, and Brenden is 5 years old. They are BIG fans of the pool, and I think we will be members for many years to come. They have met many new friends because of the pool. My stepdaughter Tori was also able to attend a handful of times this season. She is currently in graduate school. I personally work for NSA as a project manager. I have 34 years of experience in the construction industry as a field superintendent and project manager. I built houses for 6 of those 34 years, and I also sell real estate on a part-time basis. My wife Angie is a contractor at NSA, and her and the company she works for help support our mission. We live in Westminster, and we’re born and raised in Maryland. Angie and I are both from the Catonsville area.
